I have just released a couple of tutorial videos on how to use DDRescue-GUI, talking over what the settings are for, how to mount the output file, and how to restart a recovery, amongst other things.
These do not have a corresponding write-up, so this is more of an announcement post. The videos are embedded here as well. If these prove popular, I will be releasing more tutorial videos for my programs, and I will also cover more details.
Note: These tutorials are both using Linux, but don’t worry – the process is almost exactly the same on macOS, and I will release videos for that as well very soon.
DDRescue-GUI Basic Tutorial Part 1
This part of the tutorial walks you through a very basic recovery with a perfectly functioning USB stick I have.
DDRescue-GUI Basic Tutorial Part 2
This part takes you through a more real-life scenario with a scratched CD. It demonstrates the issues you may face, and shows you what settings you could change to try to recover your data faster. It also shows you how to restart a recovery – useful if your computer crashes, or you lose power, or want to change some recovery settings.
That’s it for this short post, but stay tuned for more!
