End Of Support Notice For Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks

As the title suggests, I am dropping support for Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. This release is very old, and hasn’t been supported by Apple for some time. This means that no new security bugs are being fixed, and that it is inherently insecure.

Having said that, I have tried very hard to support Mac OS X 10.9 over the years. However, I have less free time now than before, and maintaining support for these releases is becoming a time drain for me, and limiting the new features I can add to DDRescue-GUI and GetDevInfo, when I could be spending time doing more productive things, such as writing more applications for you guys, or adding support for Apple Silicon Macs (in progress).

What if I’m stuck on an old release?

However, it’s not all bad, because I will continue to keep the downloads for v2.1.1 up, which is the last version that supports Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks. I will not fix any bugs for that release after the next one comes out, but you will get at least a few months more support from me on those systems. As a software developer, I feel inclined to tell any of you still using Mac OS X 10.9 that you need to upgrade, because you are actively vulnerable to malware and viruses on the internet, just as Windows XP, Vista, and 7 users are.

That’s all from me for now, but I have a few new posts in the works, including one on the new version of KDE Plasma Mobile, as it’s been a while. Stay tuned!
