WxFixBoot 3.0.1 Released with fixes and support for Fedora 31

The latest version of WxFixBoot is now out. As the version number implies, it doesn’t bring loads of new features, but it is definitely worth upgrading, especially if you use Fedora 31.

New Features and Fixes in WxFixBoot 3.0.1

  • Added support for Fedora 31.
  • Fix a crash when a generated lilo menu entry doesn’t have a label.
  • Put OS names in alphabetical order when listing the OSs that can’t be modified.
  • Mount filesystems under /mnt/wxfixboot instead of /tmp/wxfixboot – fixes a grub-related hang.

Important Information

  • Ubuntu 14.04, wxPython 2.8.11, and Python 2.7.6 are no longer supported.
  • Fedora versions prior to 31 are no longer supported.
    • This is due to a change in the way bootloaders are managed.
    • WxFixBoot 3.0.0 will continue to work on Fedora 29 and 30.
  • The obsolete bootloaders grub-legacy and elilo are no longer supported.
  • This will be the last release to support the obsolete lilo bootloader.

As you can see, there are a number of important changes in WxFixBoot 3.0.1, and I recommend upgrading as soon as possible. You can get the new release from this website at https://www.hamishmb.com/html/downloads.php?program_name=wxfixboot or https://launchpad.net/wxfixboot.

That’s all for now, but stay tuned for more posts coming soon. I intend to release a post about my new Ryzen-base desktop soon, and one about some fairly hacky mods I made to the old desktop 🙂

I'm currently studying for a Computing and IT degree with the Open University, and am a software developer as well. I enjoy coding in Python, C++ (still learning), and Java. Having written 4 open-source programs (hosted on launchpad.net), set up my own website, and started volunteering at Wimborne Model Town to work on their river control system, I still find the time to enjoy cycling, acting, photography, and playing bass guitar. I go climbing every now and then as well. As you may have guessed, I also enjoy blogging :)
