WxFixBoot 2.0.4 has been released! and other news

Hi everyone,

WxFixBoot 2.0.4 has been released!

A new version of WxFixBoot was released to fix issues with Fedora 28 – the packages were changed in this release, and WxFixBoot actually broke the bootloader prior to the fixes! These fixes also benefit other users in the form of a small speed boost, and improved reliability on all Fedora versions. Fedora 26 isn’t supported in this build – it wasn’t easily possible to support both the new packages and the old ones, so just use version 2.0.3 if you need to modify Fedora 26.

You can download the new version using the menu bar at the top of this post.

Summary of changes in WxFixBoot 2.0.4

  • The issues with Fedora 28 were diagnosed and fixed.
  • The way grub2 for BIOS is detected on Fedora has changed to increase reliability.
  • Filesystems are no longer unmounted on startup – it caused issues with Fedora 28.
  • Removed support for Fedora 26 (use v2.0.3 instead).
  • De-emphasized a warning that occurs routinely on Fedora 28.
  • Updated the about box to use the domain address for the website.

The other news

You may have already noticed, but in the last few days I bought and activated a domain for this blog and the rest of the website. You can still access the site at the old address, but you should change your links to use https://www.hamishmb.com now – that’s the new domain. There isn’t too much other news, just that a new version of DDRescue-GUI is now on the horizon with Python 3 support, so it shall be a good release when it’s ready 🙂

I have a few other posts coming up soon, so stay tuned.
