WxFixBoot 2.0.3 is out! Download it using the bar at the top of this page.

Hi everyone,

A fairly quick post this time, seeing as I spent a fair amount of time updating the PXE booting post last week.

WxFixBoot 2.0.3 has been released!

While this is a minor new release, it contains a number of fixes and improvements that make it a much better tool, especially if you happen to be using the LILO or ELILO bootloaders. Those bootloaders are no longer supported, but I recognize that there are probably still a lot of people using them so I will continue to support them, on operating systems that have packages for them.

A brief summary of the changes

I’m skipping over some of the entirely inconsequential changes, but here you go, in no particular order.

  • Fixes for the emergency exit function, which had issues on Parted Magic in particular, and sometimes crashed or didn’t save the log file.
  • A minor look-and-feel improvement for the authentication dialog.
  • Fixes for some freezes / crashes when modifying bootloaders when the current bootloader is missing or unknown.
  • Use LILO’s “compact” boot option to speed the boot process up.
  • Fix a bug when removing a chroot that occasionally caused a crash / freeze.
  • Fix for crashing when unpartitioned disks are present.
  • Fixes for some issues with the bootloader options window (they were not present in previous releases).
  • Fixes for installation target in some circumstances when installing LILO & ELILO.

So, while it is a minor release, WxFixBoot 2.0.3 includes a fair few bug fixes, so I recommend you go and download it now if you use it :). You might never have encountered some of these bugs, but fixing them makes this tool helpful in a few awkward situations where it would have performed weirdly before, so it’s worth it to download. You can get it using the bar at the top of this page,.

That’s all from me for now, but I shall have another post soon with a demonstration of the PXE booting working.
